In addition to the original SBIR Phase I-II program to develop the Cobra helicopter seat cushion system for NAVAIR Crew Systems, there have been several Phase III efforts with them as well. SEAS has negotiated a five year Phase III IDIQ (contract #N68335-03-D-0096) to explore other applications for the Mitigator™ technology as well as to allow for purchase of production items. This contract vehicle has been used to purchase cushions for the UH-1 and AH-1W helicopters. The original testing results from NAVAIR are shown in the graph below.

NAVAIR also conducted environmental studies of the MitiGator cushions. These results are contained in a large report available on request.

Evaluations of MitiGator™ ejection seat cushions are currently underway at Wright Patterson AFB under the direction of Mr. Joseph Pellettiere. Test results are shown below. WPAFB is currently conducting comfort and fatigue studies on the MitiGator™ ejection seat cushion.

  • High Priority Offshore Racing and AMF Offshore Racing.


  The MitiGator™ Technology is an engineered cushioning system designed to protect people from hi-speed, hi-impact assaults and to allow them to continue to perform their jobs or enjoy their leisure time. The MitiGator™ uses patented air control technology working with 4,044 surfaces per square foot to dissipate energy before it is transmitted to the body and thus help alleviate the problems.

  The MitiGator™ Interlocking Tile System is the workhorse   that makes SEA Systems Hi-Impact Decking™ unmatched   in the industry. MitiGator™ decks can reduce shocks by as   much as 80%. A typical boat seat transmits most all of   the energy that the boat experiences to the seat
  occupant. A boat equipped with a Sea Systems
  Hi-Impact™ Decking transmits only about 20% of the   energy that the boat experiences to the seat occupant.

  Hi-Impact Systems are engineered to dissipate much of the shock, vibration and impact energy before it can be transmitted to the body, thus reducing the level of injury sustained and allowing crews to operate
longer and more efficiently and win more races.



  Musculoskeletal injuries are an enduring problem for APBA racers, Poker Run participants and high performance boat crews in high-speed boats.  Independent studies have shown that The Hi-Impact™ System acts as a vibration attenuating system. This reduces fatigue and pain, allowing crew members to concentrate on the race, poker run or mission.

The Problem:
  Whole-body Vibration, or WBV, negatively affects 6 million people from "head-to-toe". WBV may occur in workers who regularly operate trucks, buses, heavy equipment, forklift trucks, trains, helicopters, rotary and fixed aircraft, ships, etc. Both health and safety problems may arise from WBV. The body becomes tuned to and amplifies some WBV frequencies. The safety concern is that under these circumstances operators can experience a loss of vehicle control due to vibrations forcing their hands away from the steering wheel and other controls.

The Solution:
MitiGator™ seat cushions are used in Navy, Marine, Army, and Coast Guard helocopters, boats and other vehicles to reduce the effects of the vibrations, impacts and blasts. More than 50,000 Mitigator products are currently used by the US Military in Iraq and other locations worldwide. Mitigator technology reduces whole body vibration by 75% by absorbing the energy normally absorbed by your body. This means fewer long term injuries and reduction in the fatigue and pain suffered from vibration or impact, allowing you to spend more time in your boat without feeling it later. Mitigator has been validated by intensive, vigorous in-house testing and by the Navy and Air Force. This extremely durable material returns to its original configuration after sustaining hard contact, making it ideal for recurring impacts.

  More then 43,000 new HMMWV (M1152) have been equipped with seats that incorporate a MitiGator™ layer in the commanders seat to mitigate blast forces encountered when hit by a land mine or IED. In May of 2006 the first 500 vehicles we fielded in Iraq. As of 12/31/2007 over 25,000 M1152s were equipped with MitiGator mine blast protection seats.

  While doing a little bit of research a few weeks ago I stumbled on a new product that is one of the most innovative on the market today. Sea Systems are revolutionizing the high impact seating industry with their new Mitigator technology. Initially Mitigator was designed for military use on air, land, and sea vehicles to reduce constant or single impact, shock, or vibration that can cause fatigue, pain, injuries, and even death. Mitigator technology is now making it's way to the offshore world.
  The Sea Systems (SEAS) Group began its work on an innovative impact resistant technology under a contract with the U.S. Navy SBIR (small business innovative research) program in 1995. Located on Kerr's (or Buggs Island) Lake in Clarksville, Virginia, The SEAS Group developed the Mitigator High Impact system that can, at the very least, reduce the aches and pains of a hard day on the water. There's a wide variety of military, commercial and recreational applications for Mitigator including the high impact decking, portable and fixed deck mats, fixed decking system, a fendering system and more.
   Mitigator has been validated by intensive, vigorous in-house testing and by the Navy and Air Force. The seat cushions were put through 200 experimental drop tests and survived 1.75 million impacts with no deterioration in its performance.
  The SEAS Goup recently became the new sponsor for OPA's High Priority Racing, now called Team Mitigator, and four current offshore race teams are using their technology. Donzi, ProLine Boats, Almar and Edgewater Boats are manufacturers that offer Mitigator systems as safety options on the boats sold. The systems can be customized to meet the client's needs and installation is quick and doesn't have to be professionally installed.

   I want to take a moment to thank you for your help. After leaving Sarasota Fl on the way to St Petersburg during a recent Poker Run we encountered some nasty water under the St Pete Bridge. We were running a friend of mines smaller twin engine OB powered race boat and ran it like it was built to run, HARD. Well after exiting the boat my back was paining me and I was thinking about jumping ship for a bigger ride home. An old Powerboat racing back injury was letting me know it was still there.  Then I ran into you and your display for the Shock Mitigator system. I immediately took notice and you explained the systems and its benefits.

  Many claims this and that but you offered me a Shock Mitigator cushion for the trip back to Sarasota. I fit the cushion into my race seat replacing the existing parts. Reluctantly me and my back got in the boat for the trip home. Well from the time we took off and headed out to the bridge for the return trip it got ruff and I could not believe how the Mitigator Cushion was working and how it absorbed the shock from the heavy G force loads you experience from re entery. Needless to say that my friend Dan L*** and I ran his 30' Doug Wright Race boat Loan Shark back home the way she deserves to be run (On the Chip). I got out of the boat in Sarasota and wished that I had been riding on the Mitigator Systems throughout my offshore Racing career. I thank you and your staff for Mitigating me in the right direction.
